BOB SCHAFFER INSTALLED AS HEADMASTER OF LIBERTY COMMON SCHOOL

FORT COLLINS, COLORADO—The Liberty Common School Board of Directors announced today it has appointed The Honorable Bob Schaffer to the position of Headmaster of Liberty Common School’s entire K-12 institution. Liberty Common is a charter public school of the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado. Liberty Common serves approximately 1,100 students.

Schaffer’s vast experience in the field of education includes leadership positions at federal, state and local levels. As headmaster, he will oversee management of the school’s overall K-12 mission, provide increased support for Liberty’s foundational philosophy and Core Knowledge curriculum, and effectively implement the Board of Directors’ strategic plan.

Patrick Albright, Chairman of Liberty Common School’s Board of Directors said, “Under Mr. Schaffer’s leadership, Liberty Common High School has become one of the very top schools in the state and the nation. Broadening Mr. Schaffer’s leadership and vision across both of our campuses will improve our tradition of providing excellence in education to all of our students.”

Kelly Notarfrancesco, Liberty Common School board-member said, “The most direct path to college in Northern Colorado runs through Liberty Common High School, and elevating Mr. Schaffer’s leadership role will strengthen our ability to provide the exceptional college-preparatory education our scholars deserve.”

Schaffer was a founding parent of Liberty Common School in 1997, which initially served grades K – 7. In 2009, Schaffer was hired by Liberty Common to lead the school’s expansion to include a high school. When Liberty Common High School opened in 2010, Schaffer became principal over the junior-high, and high-school grades (7 – 12). Since opening, Liberty Common High School has consistently ranked among Colorado’s top-performing high schools.

Schaffer said, “As a charter public school, Liberty Common has always taken seriously its partnerships with families in the Poudre School District in helping them fulfill parental obligations and responsibilities to direct the education and upbringing of their children. I’m excited about being able to double my interaction with local parents, over the entire primary- and secondary-school spectrum, who are empowered by choice in public education, an ambitious classical curriculum, and the highest academic expectations for their kids.”

A leader in education, Schaffer is the past Chairman of the Colorado State Board of Education, and represented Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1997 until early 2003. Beginning in 1987, Schaffer served nine years as a Colorado state senator, where he was Vice-Chairman of the Senate Education Committee.

As one of his first acts as Headmaster of Liberty Common School, Schaffer appointed Torgun Lovely as principal of Liberty Common High School.
